Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are widely regarded as two of the best opening batsmen in One Day International cricket. Both, Rohit and Dhawan, are very aggresive batsmen and they don’t allow bowlers to settle down easily. The right hand-left hand combination also makes it difficult for the bowlers and opposition captains to set a consistent field.
Earlier, in the Test series, Shikhar Dhawan was awarded man of the series for scoring the most number of runs. He batted very efficiently throughout the Test match series and made Sri Lankan bowlers look very ordinary with his explosive batting. Rohit, however, didn’t get a game as Hardik Pandya was proffered over him to add more balance to the squad.
However, the first match of the ongoing ODI series between Sri Lanka and India, wasn’t the best of the starts for the opening combination as Rohit Sharma fell cheaply, courtesy a very unfortunate run-out. But, there are still many games left in the series and Rohit would be hoping to get himself among runs and announce his comeback.
But, before Rohit was dismissed, there was a very funny incident in the middle that made everyone, including Indian captain Virat Kohli, laugh. Rohit played a tentative straight drive that went slowly towards mid-off. Considering the pace on the ball, Rohit called for a single but stopped mid-way and started running backwards.
This created a very confusing situation in the middle as both the batsmen were right next to each other. But, due to a little misfield by Lankan fielders, tehy were able to complete the run. But, this made Indian captain Virat Kohli laugh.
