“No Captain Will Be Bigger Than MS Dhoni”: Gautam Gambhir Applauds Dhoni’s Legacy

Gautam Gambhir has heaped rich praises on the former India captain MS Dhoni for his captaincy legacy. The former batsman also believes that there is no greater Indian captain than Dhoni, and perhaps no one will have a bigger legacy of winning 3 ICC trophies as the man from Ranchi did.

Even as social media trolls Gautam Gambhir for some of his comments about individual players being celebrated by fans, the former KKR captain has laid out words of praise for MS Dhoni.

Taking over the captaincy in 2007, Dhoni propelled India to the inaugural T20 World Cup title in South Africa. India won the 2010 Asia Cup, then came the biggest prize of all: the 2011 World Cup, which Dhoni himself sealed with a magnificent six in the final.

Two years after that, Dhoni led a group of players comprising largely youngsters to Champions Trophy victory in England, defeating the hosts in the final. No Indian skipper other than Dhoni has won more than one ICC title.

Speaking with Star Sports, Gambhir hailed Dhoni: “No one can match MS Dhoni’s Captaincy in Indian cricket, many captains have come & many captains will come but I don’t think anyone can match his captaincy. The man who won 3 ICC Trophies in his captaincy, I don’t think anything can be bigger than this.”

Apart from this, MS Dhoni has also won 5 IPL titles and 2 Champions League titles with CSK.

Earlier this month, Gambhir had also commended Dhoni for sacrificing his batting position and the runs he could have scored batting higher up in the order, and instead allowed youngsters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to bat in the top order.

“Because of captaincy, he couldn’t achieve what he could have achieved as a batter. A lot of times as captain you have to keep team first. If MS was not captain, he could have batted at No 3. I am sure he could have broken several ODI records. He has won a lot of trophies, but individually he sacrificed his international runs for trophies,” Gambhir said.
