Prithvi Shaw, the young 18-year-old cricketer, who was debuting with that match, impressed each and everyone with his terrific debut. He went on to become the country’s youngest century-maker in debut test match. He opened the innings for Indian cricket team and went on to score 134 runs in 154 balls. During his brilliant innings he smashed 19 fours.

Recently, during an event Gautam Gambhir was asked about the performance of Prithvi Shaw during the match. Gambhir was all praises for the young cricketer but feels that there are bigger challenges ahead for Prithvi Shaw. He said :

“He’s impressive. He’s very talented, and that’s why he is there. He’s started off his Test career on a very good note, but there will be far bigger and far difficult challenges waiting for him,”

Gautam Gambhir also talked about how opening performances are the most crucial for any team. He wasn’t impressed with the openings of KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw. He said :

“I hope so. It’s important for any opening batter to succeed in Australia. That’s where India struggled in England. There opening partnerships were not good enough. If you want to succeed overseas or anywhere, you need a good platform,”
