The former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir, who himself is a very successful IPL captain, having won two IPL titles for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, recently, named his favorite skipper he has played under.

Gautam Gambhir made his cricketing debut for India when Sourav Ganguly was the captain of the Indian cricket team. Gautam has played under several Indian skippers including the likes of Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and of course, under the two world cup winning captain MS Dhoni as well.

Recently, during a conversation with Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir revealed the name of the best skipper he has played under and not so surprisingly, he isn’t MS Dhoni.

Gautam Gambhir said MS Dhoni would be the best skipper as per the records point of view but he picked Anil Kumble as his favorite skipper and went on to say that if he had captained for a long time, he would have gone on to break many records. Gautam Gambhir said:

“Yes MS Dhoni in records point of view, right up there but yes, for me the best captain I’ve played under is Anil Kumble,”

He also showered praises on Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble. He said:

“Sourav (Ganguly) has done really well. One captain that I would have definitely wanted to captain India for a long time is Anil Kumble. I played six Test matches under him probably; he didn’t captain India for that long. Had he captained India for a long time, he would have broken a lot of records,”

Talking about Anil Kumble, well, he was made the skipper of the Indian cricket team for the longer format of the game in the year 2007, when Rahul Dravid stood out from the position. At that time, MS Dhoni was the skipper of the Indian cricket team for the limited formats of the game.
