One of Pakistan’s most dominant batsmen of all time, Shahid Afridi took sharp digs at the duo of Indian openers, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in his autobiography.

Calling both of them insensitive, he mentioned that they are being carried away in the latest tide of hyper-nationalism. The most specific of the comments made towards Gambhir was about no significant personality and holding no great records. Also, Afridi ridiculed the Indian southpaw calling his behavior a hybrid of Don Bradman and James Bond.

In fact, Afridi was recently caught in a crossfire of taunting jibes wherein he tried to suppress his age. Afridi’s scaled tipped significantly after the Indian opener mentioned about the 2007 T-20 World Cup final.

With a stuttering batting line up, it was Gambhir’s 75 that propelled India to a respectable score. Despite, Rohit Sharma’s blistering heroics in the end, Indian fans never failed to lionize this wondrous knock that kept Pakistan at bay in the end.

Pakistan was ailing terribly with a batting collapse in the middle when Shahid Afridi walked out to bat in the final. With commentators anticipating a storm from the pinch-hitter, Irfan Pathan got rid of the Pakistani destructor-in-chief for a golden duck. Trying to go big in the very first delivery, he ended up holing out to an alert Sreesanth in the deep, whose other catch in the game won India the World Cup.

Haplessly, Afridi’s incendiary remarks caught the eye of the Indian cricketers and Gambhir retorted in no time.

In a scathing tweet aimed as a counterblast at the Pakistani all-rounder, Gambhir cited, “Someone who doesn’t remember his age how will he remember my records!OK, @SAfridiOfficial let me remind u one: 2007 T20 WC final, Ind Vs Pak Gambhir 75 off 54 balls Vs Afridi 0 off 1 ball. Most imp: We won the Cup. And yes, I’ve attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists.”

The only emphatic record that was held by Afridi was that of the fastest ODI century. However, it was first shattered by Corey Anderson and later by Abraham Benjamin Devilliers.

From now on, Afridi will take every possible precaution before hurling quips at Indian cricketers, for who knows, a Pandora’s box of his own misfortunes may end up unfurling his fate.
