After former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh compared an Olympic medal win of India to the iconic World Cup win of 2011. Harbhajan Singh hailed Neeraj Chopra and said that his historic gold medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics was bigger than India’s 2011 World Cup victory.
Neeraj Chopra brought laurels for India as he became the first gold medalist of India in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020. The track and field athlete nailed his absolute best in the men’s javelin throw final. The 23-year-old registered a best attempt of 87.58 to defeat the Czech Republic duo of Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely to create a history. He won the gold medal with a stunning 87.58 m throw.
Soon after, Neeraj won the gold medal, wishes started pouring in for him from all the corners. From cricketers, celebrities to fans around the country, everyone took to their social media to celebrate the historic win with Neeraj Chopra.
Speaking to Aaj Tak, Harbhajan Singh also hailed the brilliance of Neeraj Chopra. However, while praising him, Bhajji said that the latter’s gold medal was bigger than the World Cup 2011. He said:
“This gold medal win is bigger than the Cricket World Cup win in 2011. This should be celebrated 50 times more than the 2011 World Cup,”
The video of the interview has turned the attention of Gautam Gambhir, who came up with a sarcastic reply. In his tweet, Gambhir took a dig at MS Dhoni’s fans by writing that Singh shouldn’t have said this because he himself was trolled sometimes back mercilessly for calling Indian men’s hockey achievement bigger than the 2011 WC. He wrote:
“True that @harbhajan_singh
But You shouldn’t have said this!
You should not say this
You shall never say this!”
