Former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of limited-overs cricket, Yuvraj Singh had recently said in a live interaction with Rohit Sharma that there are very fewer guys in the Indian cricket team to look up to for the youngsters. Yuvraj had also said that social media is also a big distraction for the cricketers, these days.

“The difference I find between the team of ours and now is during our time seniors were very disciplined. Social media was not there so no distraction also. I just feel since social media has come, there are very fewer guys to look up to. That sense of respect for seniors…it has become a thin line,” Yuvraj Singh had earlier said.

Echoing Yuvraj Singh’s views, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that there is a dearth of role models in the Indian cricket team. Gambhir said that when he came to the Indian cricket team, he and other youngsters had Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, and Sachin Tendulkar to guide the team.

“I agree with Yuvraj that there is a dearth of role models in the Indian team currently, like in the 2000s, we had Dravid, Kumble, Laxman, Sourav, and Sachin to guide the team. It is important to have senior players around you who can help you when you’re going through a rough patch.

Gautam Gambhir, who is known for sharing his views in the most fearless manner, also added that now there aren’t too many seniors in the Indian camp who can put aside their self-interests to help youngsters.

“Right now, I don’t think there are enough seniors in the Indian camp, who will set aside their self-interest to help youngsters,” Gautam Gambhir said while speaking on a Star Sports’ show ‘name Cricket Connected’.
