New Zealand’s elite all-rounder, Grant Elliott is celebrating his 41st birthday today and wishes are pouring in for the Kiwi cricketers from all over the world. The International Cricket Council (ICC) tried to make his day special by recollecting his epic innings from the 2015 World Cup semifinal match.

Grant Elliott had single-handedly powered the home team to its first-ever World Cup final with that classic knock against the Proteas. You can see that post here.

ICC tagged Elliott’s official Instagram profile in the caption where the admins of the page also mentioned his ODI career numbers. The right-handed batsman played 105 games for New Zealand, aggregating 2,233 runs and scalping 57 wickets.

Although he did not achieve much success at the international level, he will always be remembered for his heroics in the 2015 World Cup. Not only did Elliott play a magnificent inning in the semifinal but he also proved to be the lone warrior for his team in the final match against Australia.

The team’s skipper, Brendon McCullum, who was in red hot form, lost his wicket in the first over but Elliott did not lose hope and played a fighting knock. Unfortunately, New Zealand could not win that match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Today, the Kiwi all-rounder thanked ICC for their post and replied to them with the following comment:

“Appreciate the wishes and message.”

However, a fan chose to spoil his special day by posting a negative comment. An Instagram user named @pradiptimalcena tagged Elliott and wrote that he had played only one good inning in his entire life. He further slammed his heroics stating that it was a fluke. Ultimately, he concluded that Elliott was the worst cricketer ever. The all-rounder chose to give him a fitting reply as he replied:

“Wow, so much hatred. Hope you find peace and contentment in whatever you do.”
