Hanuma Vihari is set to feature in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2022 season for Hyderabad, the team he rejoined last year after ending his 5-year association with the Andhra side.
The Ranji Trophy is set to commence on February 17. This season, India’s premier domestic red-ball tournament will be played in two phases – before and after the IPL 2022. The first phase will kickstart on February 17 and go on till March 15. The second phase will be held from May 30 to June 26.
All the players, staff, and officials involved have to undergo mandatory quarantine before commencing training. On Thursday night, Vihari asked his fans to suggest him something to watch while he’s in quarantine.
While many fans answered various movies and web series, one fan, popularly known as ‘Gabbbar Singh’ on Twitter, had an awesome reply: he reckoned Vihari should watch that memorable Sydney Test match in which the batter’s heroics helped India avoid a loss.

Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin eked out a hard-fought draw on the final day of the Sydney Test while both battling injuries. Early in his innings, Vihari had torn his hamstring and then couldn’t run properly in his entire knock – that lasted 161 balls for 23 unbeaten runs.
Ashwin, at the other end, was suffering from severe back pain, but stood like a rock while taking several body blows from the Aussie fast bowlers; Ashwin played out 128 balls for his 39 unbeaten runs. They forged a partnership of 62* runs – importantly bunted out for more than a session – 258 balls – and took India to a draw.
While both Vihari and Ashwin were ruled out of the fourth Test, that draw meant India went to Brisbane with the series still level at 1-1, before an inspiring collective effort helped the visitors conquer fortress Gabba.
Vihari, however, didn’t get a chance to play a single Test for a year after his epic Sydney rearguard. He played in the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg when Kohli was injured, and registered scores of 20 and 40*, but was left out of the third when the skipper returned.
