Harbhajan Singh Backs Rohit Sharma For The Test Series Against Australia

Rohit Sharma is one of the most destructive batsmen to have ever played the game for India. With his impeccable performances, Rohit has won team India many matches. He is currently, recovering from his hamstring injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, which he suffered last month while playing for his franchise Mumbai Indians during the just concluded edition of the IPL.

Rohit Sharma, who was kept out of the Test team for a long period was included as an opener in place of KL Rahul for the series against South Africa. The Hitman cemented his place by smashing back-to-back hundreds in the Vizag Test followed by his maiden double century in Ranchi.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Harbhajan Singh heaped praises on Rohit Sharma. Bhajji feels that if Rohit stays at the crease for 5 overs, then he might create a problem for the Australians. He said:

“Rohit Sharma is a quality player. Expectations from him will be high, fans will be hoping he scores as many runs in Australia as he did in Test cricket as opener on home soil in the recent past,”

He added:

“If he stays at the crease for the first 5 overs then dismissing him or even stopping him becomes very difficult because he is a very dangerous player. He cuts and pulls well, drives the ball well and even his backfoot play is also very good. Scoring runs in Australia shouldn’t be too difficult for a batsman like Rohit.

Furthermore, Harbhajan Singh went on to compare Rohit Sharma with the former destructive batsman Virender Sehwag. Bhajji hopes that Rohit Sharma gets fit on time and takes part in all the upcoming four matches of the series against Australia. He concluded:

“Facing the new ball will be important, if he plays it well then India can expect quick runs from Rohit’s bat, just like Virender Sehwag did for the team as an opener. Rohit is a very important player for the team and I hope he gets fit in time for the first Test.”
