The biggest face-off in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Women’s Premier League took place last night between the two superstars of women’s cricket in India — Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.

However, a day after suffering a 60-run defeat against Delhi Capitals in their first game, Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered their second defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians in Match no.4 of the ongoing WPL 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium.

The RCB batters couldn’t get going throughout their innings in front of Mumbai bowlers. Richa Ghosh turned out to be the highest run-getter from the side last night, with 28 runs off 26 balls. However, they suffered their biggest blow came during the sixth over of the play when a well-set Smriti Mandhana departed after scoring 23 off 17 balls.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, laid a trap for Mandhana, her teammate, with whom she shares a great bond of friendship. Harmanpreet sent in the West Indies all-rounder to bowl the final over of the Powerplay because she was aware that Mandhana had a terrible history against off-spinners, particularly against Hayley Matthews.

And as expected, Mandhana fell into Harman’s trap. Mandhana charged down the track and tried to play an inside-out shot, to go over extra cover, however, only to slice it to Issy Wong’s hands at a backward point.

After losing her wicket, Mandhana was visibly upset, on the other hand, Harmanpreet was delighted to see her ploy work and what happened next was a wild celebration by the MI captain.

She ran towards her teammates to celebrate the important scalp that they had just taken. Netines took note of the occasion and praised Harmanpreet for her genuine enthusiasm on the field following the international-level wicket of her go-to guy.

Mandhana was dismissed for 23 from 17 deliveries, after hitting 5 boundaries.
