Harsha Bhogle’s Tweet On Deepti Sharma’s Controversial Run-Out Has Gone Viral

Jhulan Goswami’s farewell match ended on a memorable note for the Indian side after bowler Deepti Sharma’s incredible run-out sealed an incredible 16-run win for the Indian cricket team at the iconic Lord’s Stadium. As a result of this win, the Indian cricket team completed a historic whitewash and registered a 3-0 series victory against the hosts.

Even with England cricket nine wickets down, it seemed Charlie Dean will almost take the hosts to the brink of victory, however, bowler Deepti Sharma shattered all the hopes of England as she handed them a bitter defeat. Deepti controversially ‘Mankaded’ a set Charlie Dean for the hosts’ 10th wicket to seal the match.

The incident occurred at a key moment of the match, which was set up for Jhulan Goswami’s grand finale by the retiring pacer herself with a wicket and a maiden in her last international over.

Deepti Sharma

Though, Deepti’s street smartness worked wonders for the Indian cricket team, however, it has started a full-fledged debate on social media, with several cricketers and experts coming out in support of the bowlers, and some against her. Among many, popular commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle also took to his social media and joined the debate regarding the ‘spirit of cricket’.

In his Tweet, Harsha raised a very good point by giving a hypothetical situation of a World Cup final as he asked the fans if a similar situation of Mankading took place, would that be fair or not? He asked:

“Imagine a World Cup final. 1 to level scores. Non-striker charges down for a single and is in by a quarter of an inch. Suppose it turns out that she had the left the crease before the ball was bowled. Would that be fair? Would running less to win be in the spirit of the game?”
