The IPL 2022 was a bumper success for the BCCI. With the addition of two teams, the number of matches increased, and so extended the biggest cricket carnival in the world, culminating in debutant Gujarat Titans winning their maiden IPL title, under the charismatic leader Hardik Pandya.

The IPL 2022 auction was the mega-auction, the first since 2018, and is likely to be the only mega-auction for at least four more years with franchises being given time to develop young players and the players making a bond with the fans.

Now the eyeballs and interests move to the IPL 2023 (the 16th edition of the tournament) and the auction preceding it.

Here are some of the important things about the IPL 2023 auction and the tournament which we know yet:

The IPL 2023 auction will be a mini-auction.

What is the date of the IPL 2023 auction?

The BCCI has planned to hold the IPL 2023 mini-auction in mid-December, with December 16 likely to be the date.

How much purse do all the franchises have for the IPL 2023 auction?

The salary purse for the auction is set at INR 95 crore – which is 5 crore more than last year. This means each team will have at least INR 5 crore to start with. The franchises can increase their purse if they release their players or trade them away.

The BCCI is strong over starting the IPL 2023 in the last week of March. The tentative schedule has been discussed among the franchises.

The IPL will return to the home-and-away format for the first time since 2019.
