“He needs to display more intent…” – Dinesh Karthik Slammed Kane Williamson

India’s veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has slammed Kane Williamson for his lack of intent during New Zealand’s 2nd T20I match against India, which the Kiwis lost by 65 runs in  Mount Maunganui. Chasing a target of 192 runs, Kane Williamson struggled to get going, as he scored 61 runs off 52 balls before he was cleaned up by Mohammed Siraj.

Kane Williamson is going through a rough patch in the shortest format of the game and because of this same he is getting heavily criticized worldwide. Williamson also failed to leave a big impact at the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia, where New Zealand finished as runner-up. Earlier, in the T20 World Cup 2022, Williamson scored 178 runs in 5-games at a questionable strike rate of 116.33.

A few days after, Williamson once again disappointed his fans as he played a slow knock of  52-ball 62 before being bowled out for 126 in 18.5 overs against India in the 2nd T20I match.

Meanwhile, in a recent interaction with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik slammed Williamson for his struggles to play aggressively in recent times. DK feels that if Williamson wants to remain in the mix, he must show more intent. He said:

“Kane Williamson needs to display more intent, especially while it’s a chase,”

Meanwhile, Williamson will miss the 3rd and final T20I game of the ongoing series against team India on Tuesday as he will attend a pre-booked medical appointment. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said the medical appointment had nothing to do with Williamson’s recurring elbow issue.

“Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule,” Stead said in a statement issued by New Zealand Cricket.

“The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland.” he added.
