India’s newest stand-in T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, gushed in praise for Rohit Sharma’s batting and leadership in the recently concluded World Cup 2023.
Rohit finished the World Cup as the second-highest run-scorer with 597 runs at an average of 54 with 1 century and 3 fifties. But, more importantly, it was his strike rate of 125 overall and his powerplay performances that are being talked about.
Suryakumar Yadav, who will now be leading India’s T20I team against Australia, said that Rohit batted exactly in the way he had said he’d do in the dressing room. SKY commended Rohit Sharma for leading with an example of himself with his selfless hitting in the powerplay as he took on the bowlers fearlessly and put less premium on his own wicket.
“Rohit Sharma led by example in this World Cup. What he has done in this WC was completely different. He literally walked the talk, what was spoken in team meetings, he did that on the ground. As a leader, He led by example,” Suryakumar Yadav said on Wednesday in Vizag.
In the first powerplay during the World Cup, Rohit Sharma scored 401 runs at a bumper strike rate of 135.
I told youngsters to be very selfless: Suryakumar Yadav

Ahead of his first series as a captain, Suryakumar revealed the message he has relayed to the youngsters in the squad. Suryakumar Yadav said he wants his players to play selflessly and this is something which he himself does with his batting and mindset.
“When I met the squad in the afternoon today, I told them to be very selfless when you go into the field. Because I’m a guy who doesn’t think too much about personal milestones but instead thinks of a team’s goal. And I’ve always told them that you have to keep the team first,” Suryakumar said.
When asked about how he is recovering from the World Cup final loss, SKY admitted the pain of the heartbreak will remain with him for a while.
“World Cup loss will take time to heal,” Suryakumar said.
