Here’s The Reason Why Team India Is Wearing Black Arm Bands: The much-awaited World Championship’s Final clash between India and New Zealand finally kickstarted on Saturday. As the match kickstarted, New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl first. Earlier, the opening day of the ongoing final Test match of WTC was washed out because of the rain however with the reserve day in place, all the efforts will be made to decide the result of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship.

Meanwhile, as the Virat Kohli-led Team India walked out for the National Anthem ahead of the WTC final, the players were seen wearing black armbands. The reason for the gesture was the heart-breaking demise of the legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh. The 91-year-old sprinter, Milkha Singh, passed away late on Friday night because of the complications related to COVID-19 and the Indian cricketers paid their tribute to the legend for whatever he has done for the country, over his glorious lifetime.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to their twitter and shared the same via a heart-touching tweet. The BCCI wrote:

“in remembrance of Milkha Singhji, who passed away due to COVID-19”.

The legendary sportsperson Milkha Singh had tested positive for COVID-19 in May and was admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh on May 24 as he had been suffering with COVID pneumonia. Earlier Milkha Singh’s wife Nirmal Kaur, who was also being treated for COVID pneumonia, passed away on Monday.

Earlier, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli took to his Twitter and paid respect to the Flying Sikh. He wrote:

“A legacy that inspired a whole nation to aim for excellence. To never give up and chase your dreams. Rest in Peace MilkhaSingh ji. You will never be forgotten,”
