Here’s Why Hitman Sharma Has Been Appointed India’s Vice-Captain For The Last Test

India’s destructive batsman and limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is all set to make his long-awaited return to international cricket. Hitman Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain for the rest of the two-Test matches against the Australian cricket team.

There were a lot of talks about Rohit’s fitness, however, he is all set to take the field in the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He has already joined his teammates after completing his 14-day quarantine period on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma will finally take over the reins from Cheteshwar Pujara.

Rohit’s appointment as the vice-captain has come out as a big surprise to everyone, considering the fact that Rohit has played just 32 Tests for India, and Pujara is way more experienced. However, as per a Scroll.in report, it was revealed that the Hitman was always in contention for the coveted role. In fact, the report explains that Pujara was only a temporary option, and Rohit’s experience in limited-overs cricket turned things in his favor.

Here’s Why Hitman Sharma Has Been Appointed India’s Vice-Captain For The Last Test

“There was never an iota of doubt about who will be India’s vice-captain once Virat takes a break and Ajinkya is elevated. It was always going to be Rohit and Pujara was just a stop-gap arrangement till the former joined the squad. Rohit has been India’s long-time white ball vice-captain, so it was only imperative that in Virat’s absence, he will be a part of the team’s leadership group,” said a BCCI official.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be hoping to put on a ‘Hitman Show’ against the challenging pace attack in Australian conditions when team India will be locking its horns against Australia in Sydney on January 7th, 2021.
