Here’s Why IPL 2022 Auction Will Be The Last Mega-Auction

While fans are eagerly waiting for the mega IPL 2022 auction, it is being reported that this will most likely be the last mega auction as franchise owners aren’t too keen on going into the pool all over again, after this.

It is also being said that BCCI’s retention policies don’t allow franchise owners to retain their core and pushes them in the massive pool of players all over again, after spending more than a decade in building their squads.

Here’s Why IPL 2022 Auction Will Be The Last Mega-Auction

Times of India have reputed that franchises, along with other stakeholders, believe that the concept of a mega auction is redundant and they want the upcoming mega IPL 2022 auction to be the last meg auction.

A report published on TOI quoted a source inside the IPL saying that the franchises are hoping this to be the last mega auction as they don’t want to keep building their squads from the scratch again after this.

“We genuinely hope this is the last mega-auction because the trend has clearly gone past its sell-by date. This, in turn, will also put pressure on franchises to pick well at this mega-auction because they’ll be building their future teams around these set of players.”

Our view on IPL 2022 auction being the last mega-auction

We agree with the views shared by the franchise owners and other stakeholders that it is extremely difficult to clean the skate that they have been working on from more than a decade and build their teams, squads and everything else from the scratch. The idea of mega-auction seems exciting for the fans and might benefit a few players financially but it also effects the legacy of a club when all those who have contributed for such a long time have to go all at once.

We, at The Cricket Lounge, also hope that IPL 2022 auction will be the last mega-auction and the franchises won’t have to go through such a massive transformation again.
