Preity Zinta, one of the co-owners of the Punjab Kings, has applauded the Mumbai Indians franchise members for taking utmost safety regarding the covid-19 rules at the IPL 2022 mega-auction table.
The event got kick-started in a Bangalore hotel on Saturday. Although it wasn’t compulsory for the members attending the event to wear masks, the Mumbai Indians franchise owners and staff were seen donning the masks, while others didn’t.
Owners Nita and Akash Ambani were present and were raising the paddles to bid for players; seated alongside were head coach Mahela Jayawardene and Director of Operations Zaheer Khan. All of them had worn covid safety masks taking all the precautions they can against the virus and its variants that still has the country battling against it.
Preity Zinta, who couldn’t be present at the auction this time, hailed this decision by the MI owners to war masks via a tweet. The renowned actress also complimented the “pretty eyes” of Mrs. Nita Ambani.
“Good to see Mumbai Indians are Covid compliant at the IPL auction table Must confess Nita Ambani has pretty eyes,” Preity Zinta tweeted.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians were mostly inactive during the first day of the mega-auction and hardly bid for anyone in the first hour. However, as expected by everyone, they were waiting for Ishan Kishan; when Kishan came up, MI was the first to raise their bid, and broke their bank securing the services of the 23-year-old keeper-batsman for a whopping 15.25 crore.
Kishan had been released before the auction as MI preferred Suryakumar Yadav. However, now they have got the youngster back with a long-term vision.
Other than Ishan Kishan, the four-time champions added only three more players to their squad: the sensational South African youngster Dewald Brevis for 3 crore, also known as ‘Baby AB’ after he took the under-19 World Cup by storm, along with Basil Thampi for 30 lakh, and 1.6 crore for Murugan Ashwin.
