Chennai Super Kings has finally announced the list of their retained players ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2022 mega-auctions. The franchise has decided to retain the services of their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali along with captain MS Dhoni and opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moeen is the only foreign pick for the four-time IPL champions.

MS Dhoni in 12 seasons leading the CSK franchise as a skipper has got the team to four title wins, the most recent being the IPL 2021 edition. There isn’t any denying the fact that MS Dhoni is the MVP of the franchise, however, it was Ravindra Jadeja, who became the first player to be retained by the franchise and got the bigger amount and contract.

As per the retention policy, the salary of each player in case a team retains four players – Rs 16 crore for Player 1, Rs 12 crore for Player 2, Rs 8 crore for Player 3, and Rs 6 crore for Player 4.

Therefore, going by this rule, Ravindra Jadeja, who was the first choice for retention by CSK earned a contract worth INR 16 crores and MS Dhoni got INR 12 crores.

Well, ahead of the IPL 2022 retention ceremony, MS Dhoni had asked the franchise to not retain him as the first player for the next IPL 2022 season. The legendary skipper wanted to see other budding players fetching a good amount of money, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, The retention has also cleared the air regarding MS Dhoni playing in the next edition of the Indian Premier League or not. There were speculations over Dhoni continuing in the IPL amid the retention policy and considering the age of the player in mind.

Earlier, during an event organized by CSK, MS Dhoni had said that he hopes the last T20 match will be in Chennai. He had said: “I have always planned my cricket. You know my last game that I played, was in Ranchi. (In) the ODI version, the last home game was at my hometown in Ranchi. So hopefully, my last T20, it will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year, or in five years’ time, we don’t really know,”
