England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan, who led the two-time winning franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to the finals of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League went unsold on day two of the ongoing IPL 2022 Mega Auction being held in Bengaluru.
On Day 2 of the ongoing IPL 2022 mega-auction, we saw a few players getting new teams. However, one of the most surprising names that went unsold was of England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan. The England captain is well known for his leadership abilities, therefore, he was expected to be on the radar of a lot of franchises, that were looking out for captaincy options but to everyone’s surprise, he went unsold.
Coming into the ongoing IPL 2022 mega-auctions, Eoin Morgan had a base price set to INR 1.50 crores but none of the franchises showed interest in buying him for that price.
It has to be noted that Morgan’s numbers in the Indian Premier League over the years haven’t been as good as he has failed to perform with the bat. Though he led Kolkata Knight Riders to the final of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League but Eoin Morgan disappointed everyone with his batting performance throughout the season.
The biggest turndown for Morgan last year was his poor run of form in the IPL. He could only amass 133 runs from 17 games he played at an average of merely over 11.
Meanwhile, fans on social media were left in total disbelief after Eoin Morgan went unsold. From cricketers, experts to fans, everyone took to Twitter and reacted to Morgan remaining unsold at the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati to this:
So the fact that he hasn’t scored enough runs means #KKR have moved on past the captain who took them to the final last year. #EoinMorgan

Eoin Morgan unsold is a bit surprising. Poor form last season but at that base price his experience is invaluable. Especially when rebuilding your squad and beginning a new cycle.
Franchises, as always, know better. Will be interesting if brought back later. #IPLAuction

Eoin Morgan UNSOLD!.
If you bid for Eoin Morgan you don’t only get Eoin Morgan but also his analyst that he carries with him.
He is a package, come on teams what are you doing..?#IPLAuction #IPLMegaAuction2022#KKR— Holy Cricket Christ! (@CricketInsight3) February 13, 2022
I am surprised that @SunRisers did not bid for Eoin Morgan despite a pathetic middle order at 1.5 crore. Their strategy is laughable. Surely many will not support Hyderabad this year despite being a hyderabadi. Maybe Tom Moody waiting to flood in few Aussies. No thought process.
