Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most decorated players in cricket history having won the ICC World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and even captured the trophy for being the numero uno team in Test cricket. Interestingly, Dhoni achieved all these feats as a captain and he will always go down as one of the most selfless cricketers in the history of the sport.
The right-handed batsman from Ranchi always gave the team his priority and he allowed his teammates to take the spotlight. This is the reason why he used to float in the batting order. He has done almost everything in his cricket career.
MS Dhoni has opened the innings for India in ODIs and even batted at the number 8 batsman. He achieved maximum success at the number 3 position where he had an average of 82.75 and a strike rate of 99.70. Here’s a look at his highest individual score at all batting positions in ODI cricket.
Opening – 96
Although he has an aggressive batting approach, MS Dhoni opened the innings only twice for India in 50-overs cricket. He scored 2 runs in a match against Sri Lanka while in the other, he played a defiant knock of 96 runs against England. The match took place at Jamshedpur and unfortunately, India lost that match.
Number 3- 183*
As mentioned ahead, Dhoni performed the best at number 3 and he even registered his highest score in ODI cricket at this number. Playing against Sri Lanka in Jaipur during the year 2005, Dhoni slammed 183 runs off 145 deliveries to help India chase down a score of 299 runs.
Number 4 – 109*
MS Dhoni registered an ODI hundred, batting at five different positions that showcase his incredible talent. In the 2008 Asia Cup, he came out to bat at number 4 against Hong Kong and blasted 109 runs from 96 balls to make sure that India wins the match by 256 runs.
Number 5 – 134
This innings would be fresh in the minds of the fans because MS Dhoni played this knock in the 2016-17 season. He formed an epic partnership with Yuvraj Singh for the fourth wicket and scored 134 runs from 122 deliveries before Liam Plunkett dismissed him.
Number 6 – 139*
Another innings that the fans would remember easily, Dhoni played this knock of 139 runs against Australia in the 2013 season at Mohali. India posted 303 runs on the board but because of James Faulkner’s heroics, Australia won the match by 4 wickets.
Number 7 – 139*
Co-incidentally, MS Dhoni has the same highest score at number 6 and number 7. He played a knock of 139 runs for the Asia XI side in the Afro-Asia Cup 2007. He added 218 runs for the sixth wicket with team captain Mahela Jayawardene as the Indo-Sri Lankan pair helped Asia XI win the match by 13 runs.
Number 8 – 20
Very few fans may remember that Dhoni has even batted at the number 8 position but the former Indian skipper batted thrice at this position. He had a lowly average of 17 while his highest score was just 20. Besides, his strike rate of 62.20 shows that he could not play his natural game at this number thus, the team management promoted him soon.
