The Hitman from Mumbai, Rohit Sharma has played an important role in the success that Mumbai Indians have achieved in the Indian Premier League. Before Rohit became the captain of Mumbai, the Mukesh Ambani-owned franchise did not have a single title to its name while at the moment, they are the most successful team in IPL with 4 triumphs in the last 7 years.
Although Rohit is often trolled for the fact that all of his championship wins have come in odd years, no one can rule out that he is a proven match winner in T20 cricket. The right-handed batsman has destroyed several bowling attacks with his incredible batting performances and here’s a look at his highest individual scores against every IPL team.
Chennai Super Kings – 87:
Starting with Rohit Sharma’s best inning against the MS Dhoni-led outfit, Chennai Super Kings, Sharma registered his highest score of 87 against CSK in 2011. Wankhede Stadium hosted the match and the home team got off to a terrible start as they lost both the openers inside the first 20 balls. Rohit then came out to bat at number 4 and stabilized the innings before hitting 8 fours and 5 sixes to take MI to 164/4 in 20 overs. Mumbai won that game by 8 runs.
Delhi Capitals – 74*:
Two years later, Rohit played his best knock against Delhi as he joined forces with Dinesh Karthik to blow away the Delhi bowling attack. Karthik missed his hundred by 14 runs while Rohit remained unbeaten at 74 as Mumbai scored 209 runs in 20 overs. They won the match comfortably by 44 runs.
Kings XI Punjab – 79*:
Rohit Sharma enjoyed his new role as the team captain in 2013 as he played yet another stellar knock against a north Indian team. Playing against Kings XI Punjab, Rohit slammed 79 runs off just 39 balls to guide Mumbai to a score of 174 runs in 20 overs. The match went down to the wire but Mumbai won the game by 4 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 109*:
Although he has recorded many big scores in limited overs cricket, Rohit has been able to touch the triple figures only once in the IPL history. He achieved that feat against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 when he hit 109 runs off 60 balls and ensured that Mumbai win the match at Eden Gardens.
Mumbai Indians – 45:
In case you did not know, Rohit Sharma played six matches against Mumbai Indians when he was a part of Deccan Chargers in the first few seasons. He could not register a 50+ score against Mumbai but he managed to score 45 from 28 balls in the 2010 season. Co-incidentally, that match was played at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rajasthan Royals – 73:
Playing for the Deccan Chargers in IPL 2010, Rohit Sharma registered his maiden 50+ score against Rajasthan Royals. The Shane Warne-led franchise posted 159 runs on the board in the first innings. Sharma’s 44-ball 73 took Chargers close to the target however, his unfortunate dismissal on the final ball of the match helped RR win the game by 2 runs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 94:
The recent-most innings to feature on this list is Sharma’s 94 runs knock against RCB in IPL 2018. The right-handed batsman stitched a magnificent partnership for the third wicket with Evin Lewis as the two explosive batsmen took Mumbai to 213/6 in 20 overs. RCB lost that match by 46 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – 67:
A rare Rohit Sharma fifty in a losing cause for Mumbai Indians, Sharma’s 67 runs inning went in vain against Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2017. His half-century took Mumbai to 138/7 in 20 overs and the Orange Army easily chased the target down with 7 wickets in hand.
