After their 5-wicket victory over Australia in the 1st ODI in Mohali, Team India jumped to the top of the ranking in the ICC ODI Team’s ranking. Thus, having already been the number 1 ranked ICC team in the T20I and Test formats, India became the number 1 ranked in all three formats.

India achieved a historic feat as they became only the second Men’s team ever to hold the number 1 ICC ranking in all three formats. This feat was first achieved in men’s cricket by Graeme Smith’s South Africa team in August 2012.

Men in Blue displaced Babar Azam’s Pakistan from the top of the ODI ranking. India could, however, also slip down to back to the second spot if Australia make a comeback and win both the remaining matches the series. Then Pakistan will go back to the top spot. So India need to avoid loss in both the matches to retain their number 1 ODI rank.

The achievement of this magnificent record just before the World Cup 2023 comes as a great boost to the side and the fans. It also sends out a massive statement to the other teams about the strength and stability in the side.

India also have their individual players dominating the ICC ranking: T20 superstar Suryakumar Yadav is the No. 1 ranked batsman in T20Is, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj is the No. 1 ranked bowler in ODIs; the duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are at the top of the bowling and allrounder charts in Test ranking.

Twitter flooded with praises for Team India for achieving this rare feat. Fans also posted some hilarious memes on this occasion.
