“How Loyalty Ends”: Did Kieron Pollard Take a Subtle Dig At Mumbai Indians?

Kieron Pollard latest cryptic Instagram story has left the fans wondering whether he, too, is unhappy with Hardik Pandya becoming the new Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, amid rumors of Hardik also taking over India’s T20I captaincy from Rohit Sharma.

After spending two highly successful seasons at the Gujarat Titans, Pandya returned to MI through a trade. He had spent his first 7 IPL seasons at MI, winning 4 titles, before propelling GT to its maiden IPL trophy in the franchise’s first season.

With Rohit Sharma being 36 years old, and MI having not reached an IPL final in the last three seasons, the MI owners and management decided to bring back Hardik Pandya, though it also meant to fulfill Pandya’s reported pre-condition of being named the new MI skipper instantly, reaplacing Rohit Sharma, one of the two most successful IPL captains of all-time.

"How Loyalty Ends": Did Kieron Pollard Take a Subtle Dig At Mumbai Indians?

After Hardik’s appointment as the new MI captain, senior players Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav had already posted Insta stories with cryptic quotes. Now, Mumbai Indians legend and batting coach Kieron Pollard, too, has posted a cryptic quote about “loyalty” and “benefits”, adding more fuel to the already outraging fans of Rohit Sharma.

Kieron Pollard shared a quote on his Insta story: “Once the rain is over, an umbrella becomes a burden to everyone. That’s how loyalty ends when benefits stop.”

Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard had retired from the IPL ahead of the IPL 2023 auction after a couple of seasons of his dip in form. He was, however, drafted soon into the MI coaching staff as their batting coach. Pollard, though, continues to ply his trade in other franchise leagues for Mumbai Indians’ wings. He will be seen in the upcoming SA20 and ILT20 leagues.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is currently injured and won’t be available for the Afghanistan T20I series. He will, it means, return straightaway in the IPL 2024, leading MI.

There is also an uncertainty about who will lead India in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies – Hardik or Rohit.
