“I Am Not Finished Yet” Amit Mishra Tells IPL Franchise Owners

Senior India leg-spinner Amit Mishra is “not finished yet” as a player, he said after going unsold in the IPL 2022 auction when Parth Jindal, Chairman and co-owner of Delhi Capitals, queried him to return to DC in a backroom staff capacity.

Amit Mishra is the third-leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL – with 166 wickets behind only Dwayne Bravo with 167 wickets and Lasith Malinga who lead the charts with 170 wickets to his name.

Mishra had been at Delhi Capitals (earlier Daredevils) from 2015 till last season. However, because of injuries, fitness issues, and younger options he got to play in only 7 matches over the last two seasons. In IPL 2021, he featured in 4 games and took 6 wickets with a best of 4/24.

With Mishra, an IPL veteran, going unsold at the mega-auction, Parth Jindal wrote an emotional tweet for the leg-spinner, in which he also invited Mishra to be part of the Delhi Capitals set up in the coaching staff so that he could share his knowledge with younger cricketers in the squad.

“To one of the @IPL greats @MishiAmit we @DelhiCapitals would like to salute everything you have done for us over all these years and would love to have you back at DC in whatever capacity you see fit as your insights would be most valuable. Mishy bhai DC is yours for life,” Jindal tweeted.

The 39-year-old Amit Mishra, though, believes that he could still continue as a player. He acknowledged Jindal’s respects- but asserted that is yet good enough as a cricketer.

“Thanks @ParthJindal11 for the kind words & your acknowledgment(sic) of my services for the team. I am truly humbled! But, I am not finished yet and can easily add to the legacy of @DelhiCapitals…only if DC needs me! I am always in their corner,” the 39-year-old leggie replied.

Amit Mishra has, however, not played a high-level game since the last IPL, not featuring in the entire domestic season. There is still a way in which Mishra could play in IPL 2022 – if Delhi Capitals or any other franchise roped him in as a replacement for an injured or unavailable player.
