India’s newly-appointed captain Virat Kohli, said he wants to rectify some of the “mistakes” he made in the first Test of the ongoing series at the Adelaide, as India’s captain. Virat Kohli, who captained Team India in the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15 as the stand-in captain in the absence of MS Dhoni, will lead India as the first choice Test captain in the fourth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), after MS Dhoni announced his retirement after the third Test.

Virat Kohli is known for his aggressive brand of cricket and he has already been involved in many on-field spats with several Australian cricketers in  the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15. Kohli, in a press conference at the SCG, told reporters that he hopes he can be as calm as MS Dhoni.

“There’s so much to learn from him, especially in tough situations. His composure, his decision making at important times,” Kohli said.

“These are the things which are priceless, any captain would love to have them. I hope I can be as calm as him, but everyone has different styles,” Kohli added.

Kohli also said he hopes to rectify some of the mistakes he made in the first Test. The first Test at the Adelaide was Kohli’s first Test as India’s Test captain and he received lots of praise for his aggressive captaincy.

“There were quite a few things that I sat down and analysed in Adelaide that can be improved on and I’ve thought about them in the past few days,” Kohli told reporters at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

“Hopefully I’ll get those right and try to make the right decisions in every situation out there in the middle,” Kohli added.

When asked about how India would approach the on-field aggression and sledging, Kohli said India would look to play with a positive frame of mind, but keeping in mind that no one crosses the “line”.

It’s important for the players to know that we need to be in a positive frame of mind, a line doesn’t need to be crossed,” Kohli said.

“But we are not here to back down from any sort of confrontation or any sort of battle,” Kohli concluded.
