With just a few games left in the group stages of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, let’s have a look at 10 breakthrough records that swayed the world in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cup

1. Most consecutive centuries:

Sri Lanka’s batting maestro Kumar Sangakkara became the only batsmen in the history of cricket to score four consecutive hundreds in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

2. Highest number of 50s:

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for making the highest number of half-centuries in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Tendulkar has 21 half centuries in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

3. Highest-wicket-taker:

Australia’s Glenn Mcgrath holds a record of taking 71 wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Mcgrath also holds the record for best individual figures and best economy rate in the history of World Cup cricket.

4. Highest number of catches:

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is the leading fielder in terms of catches made (28), in both an individual World Cup tournament and in the competition’s history.

5. Highest runs:

Sachin Tendulkar also holds the record for making highest runs (2278) in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

6. Most Sixes:

South Africa’s captain AB de Villiers, has hit the most number of sixes during the entire tournament, making a record total of 36. In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Villiers has smashed 20 sixes in six innings so far.

7. Fastest 150:

AB de Villiers also holds the record for the fastest 150 in the ICC Cricket World Cup. In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, de Villiers scored 150 runs off just 64 balls in the pool game against West Indies.

8. Fastest century:

Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien holds the record for hitting the fastest century against England, in 50 balls. O’Brien’s fastest hundred helped Ireland in beating England in a historic run chase in the 2011 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

9. Highest score:

West Indies’ swashbuckling batsman became the only batsman to score a double hundred in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Gayle scored 215 runs in the pool game against Zimbabwe of the ICC Cricket World Cup

10. Most number of appearances in the World Cup Cricket:

Sachin Tendulkar, Former Indian Cricketer: 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996;

Javed Miandad, Former Pakistani Cricketer : 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996
