The International Cricket Council (ICC) on November 7 announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for October 2022. The Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month following a series of terrific performances as team India charged their way to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals.
The year 2022 has been nothing less than a rollercoaster ride for Virat Kohli. The cricketer was going through a lean patch, struggling to score runs. His century drought that lasted nearly a thousand days made the world think of the end of Kohli’s era. However, he made a powerful comeback and proved why he is often regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
Though Kohli had hinted about his comeback in the RCb outfit during the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, but there were many who pointed fingers at his position in the playing XI. But he silenced his critics with his performances, which found significant acceleration on the international stage since the Asia Cup this year.
He made a blockbuster return by smashing a couple of half-centuries and his maiden T20I century in the Asia Cup 2022 before taking the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 by storm. He played a match-winning knock against Pakistan in India’s campaign opener. He has played some terrific performances, smashing a couple of more half-centuries. He is currently the leading run-getter in the tournament so far.
Meanwhile, Virat secured the ICC Player Of The Month Award after being nominated for the first time, edging out a competitive field that included South Africa’s sublime finisher David Miller and the in-form Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, who both have impressed one and all with their magnificent performances.
Reacting to his ICC Men’s Player of the Month prize, Kohli said: “It is a great honor for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me.”
“I want to pay tribute to the other nominees who performed so well during the month and also to my teammates, who continue to support me to perform to the best of my ability.”
