ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule: In less than a year’s time when the 2021 T20 World Cup concluded in the UAE, the tournament – ICC T20 World Cup 2022 – will once again take hold of everyone’s attention when it will kick off in October in Australia.

The marquee clash of India and Pakistan on October 23, to be played at the iconic MCG, is already hyped up once again (the two arch-rivals will first meet in this month’s Asia Cup) as it was last year with Babar Azam’s side emerging victorious by 10 wickets.

Eventually, Pakistan lost to Australia in the semi-final and Aaron Finch’s unit went on to defeat trans-Tasman rivals, New Zealand, in the final in Dubai to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup trophy.

Now, they have a golden opportunity to become the first team to successfully defend their T20 crown as they play the hosts for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Earlier this year, the ICC already announced the schedule for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will follow the same formats as it did last year.

The tournaments will start with a preliminary first round, between October 16 and 21, which involved a couple of former champions Sri Lanka and the West Indies. In this preliminary round, Sri Lanka are in Group A with Namibia, Netherlands and UAE, while Group B comprises West Indies, Zimbabwe, Scotland and Ireland.

The top two teams from each of these groups will proceed to the main event – the Super 12 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

The two groups in the Super 12 are as follows:

Group 1: Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, A1, B2

Group 2: India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, B1, A2

Top two teams from each of the Super 12 groups will battle out in the knockouts – two Semi-finals that will be played in Sydney and Adelaide. The winners of the two semis will contest the final on November 13 at the MCG. As many as 7 venues will be used throughout the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

This edition of the T20 World Cup – 8th – in Australia was originally scheduled to be played in 2020 but the tournament had to be postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic
