What Happens If IND vs PAK Match Goes Into Reserve Day?

What Happens If IND vs PAK Match Goes Into Reserve Day? – The India vs Pakistan match in the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2023, played at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, got underway at its scheduled time of 3.00 PM with India batting first.

The match was going smoothly until, however, at 4.53 PM the match was interrupted by rain and since then the play has been held for two and a half hours at the time of writing. In the meantime, at one point, the rain had stopped, but after a few minutes, it resumed again.

Even though the hard-working, and always on their toes Colombo ground staff had covered the entire ground, water seeped into it, and a big patch near the boundary rope got damp, which was the cause of a long delay even after the rain had stopped at around 7 PM. Till that time, India had played 24.1 overs, scoring 147/2.

There were two showers forecasted for Sunday in Colombo, so another period of rain could be imminent later on after some time.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had already added a reserve day, of Monday, to this India vs Pakistan encounter, after fearing another wash-out as it happened last week in Pallekele where the two teams met on September 2 when no play was possible after India’s innings.

The ACC made this special rule change in the playing conditions of the reserve day only for the India vs Pakistan game in Super 4 and no reserve day for other matches. The final, on September 17, also in Colombo will also have a reserve day.

IND vs PAK: What are the rules of the reserve day?

The first notable rule is that the match officials will try to get a result for the IND vs PAK match on Sunday itself. This means that the officials will try their best to have a game of at least 20 overs per innings to achieve a result on Sunday.

In an ODI, a minimum of 20 overs must be bowled per innings (or if any team gets bowled out under 20 overs) to achieve a conclusion.

The reserve day, which is Monday, will kick-in if a result is not possible on Sunday, that is even a 20-over game is not possible. The match will be continued on Monday from the same point where it was stopped on Sunday. This means that even if the match officials reduce the length of the game, and the match starts again, and if it is not possible to conclude the match on Sunday, the match will resume from where it was stopped under the newly decided overs.

The match will not be restarted on the reserve day, but will continue from where it is stopped on the original day.
