Nathan Lyon has 487 wickets in 120 Tests, and 101 of them have come against England. But, England’s young batting sensation Harry Brook will have little respect for the GOAT and will look to “take him on” when the duo comes face to face in the first Ashes 2023 Test.
The much-awaited, highly anticipated Ashes 2023 series – which will see England’s resurgent Bazball team host World Test Champions Australia – will kick-start on Friday, June 16, at Edgbaston.
Ahead of the first Test in Birmingham, Harry Brook, who averages 81 in his 7-Test career so far, has sent a warning to Nathan Lyon and has made his intentions clear of aiming to attack Australia’s greatest off-spinner. The 24-year-old asserted that England batters will look to “hit him for a lot of runs”.
“If he bowls a good ball then I’m going to respect it. But other than that, I’m going to try and take him on. He could get a lot of wickets, but hopefully we’re going to hit him for a lot of runs,” Brook said.
Harry Brook has been an uprising star and a key part of England’s success under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. In 11 Tests innings, the right-hander has amassed 818 runs at a stunning average of 81 and attacking strike rate of 99 with 4 centuries – 3 of which came on the Pakistan tour and one in New Zealand.
How does Harry Brook do it?

“I’d like to think I’m a player who can find gaps and hit different gaps, I try and play all around the wicket. I’ll see whatever field he has; I’m sure they’ll probably start with everybody up and we’ll go from there,” Harry Brook explained.
“It’s been a whirlwind six months really, the best winter I could have ever asked for and long may it continue. I’m looking forward to the Ashes. Australia are one of the best teams in the world off the back of a World Test Championship win, and I’ve always wanted to play against the best players in the world and see how good I really am. I’m looking forward to facing those boys and challenging myself against them and whatever plans they have against me.”
