“In The Next Decade…”- Australian Journalist Makes Bold Prediction About Shubman Gill

India opener Shubman Gill will be dominating the batting charts in the coming decade, that is the prediction of the world-famous Australian cricket journalist Gideon Haigh.

Shubman Gill has got started with a bang in his international career. The 23-year-old from Punjab is one of the handful of batters in the world to have recorded international centuries in all three formats; he played a crucial role in Gujarat Titans winning the IPL 2022 and reaching the final in IPL 2023, Gill ending up with the Orange Cap for his 890 runs this season.

He is hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket – the present and the future – the batsman to take the baton of Indian batting legacy from Virat Kohli, just like Kohli did from Sachin Tendulkar, who took it from Sunil Gavaskar.

Inevitably, these talks were bound to emerge of Gill being the successor of Virat Kohli. Kohli was the ICC Player of the Decade of the 2010s; Gill is predicted to take that award at the end of this decade.

Heading into the WTC Final 2023 against Australia, Shubman is coming off a sensational IPL season, which had followed a thunderous home season where he smoked centuries in all formats.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli

Speaking with Revsportz, the revered Australian journalist Gideon Haigh was asked about Shubman and his being the successor in line to Kohli, Tendulkar and Gavaskar.

“I really like the way Indians paint these lineages. Shows how much they love their icons across generations. Coming to Gill, I think he is absolute batting royalty. At his age, he has scored runs in a way few can, and he will go into the final full of confidence. I think we will all agree he will be the dominant batter in the next decade,” Haigh asserted.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans batting coach and mentor and the former India head coach Gary Kirsten was also queried about the same topic having worked alongside all three of Tendulkar, Kohli, and Gill.

“He is a young player who has incredible skill and determination to be one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey,” Kirsten said in an interview with Cricbuzz.

Shubman Gill’s next challenge is the WTC Final 2023 against Australia,
