Rohit Sharma has made his comeback in T20Is for India in the 3 T20I series against Afghanistan after a gap of more than 13 months. Rohit last played a T20I in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final in Adelaide against England, which India lost by 10 wickets.
With the ODI World Cup and Test cricket taking precedence in 2023, Rohit Sharma only played those two formats and was rested from all T20Is. Now, with en eye on the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in June in the West Indies and the USA, the 36-year-old is back in the fold and resumed his captaincy duties as India host Afghanistan for 3 T20Is.
Rohit Sharma in line to break a major record of MS Dhoni in T20Is

If India defeats Afghanistan 3-0 and Rohit plays in all three games, then he will have overtaken MS Dhoni’s record of most wins as India’s captain in T20Is!
MS Dhoni, who marched India to the T20 World Cup 2007 trophy in South Africa, is still India’s most successful T20I skipper, even though he stepped down from white-ball captaincy in January 2017.
Dhoni captained India to 41 T20I match wins between 007 and 2016, which remains the most for an Indian captain in the shortest format. But this record of MS Dhoni is likely to be broken as India is expected to whitewash Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma has so far 39 wins under his belt as India’s T20I captain. And Rohit has achieved this figure in 21 fewer matches than Dhoni. Former captain Virat Kohli won 30 T20Is as a skipper.
Most T20I wins as India’s captain:
1. MS Dhoni – 41 in 72 matches.
2. Rohit Sharma – 39* in 51 matches.
3. Virat Kohli – 30 in 50 matches.
