IND vs AFG: As winter sets in North India, the region becomes grappled with a cold wave. Mohali, situated in the northern part of India, is experiencing bone-chilling temperatures of around 8 degrees Celsius. Amidst this wintry weather, the first T20 match between India and Afghanistan took place, making for an exhilarating sporting spectacle.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, won the toss and elected to field first. Afghanistan began their innings and managed to score 158 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Considering the challenging weather conditions, it was a commendable performance by the Afghan batsmen.
However, India’s disciplined bowling attack proved to be their strength throughout the match. The bowlers managed to restrict Afghanistan to a modest total on a good batting deck. The standout bowlers for India were able to control the game for the most part, making scoring difficult for their opponents. It is worth mentioning that the half-century partnership between Omarzai and Nabi played a crucial role in helping Afghanistan cross the 150-run mark.
In response, India faced an early blow as their captain, Rohit Sharma, was dismissed without scoring a run in the very first over. This setback did not deter the Indian team, as they steadily built momentum. Young Shubman Gill made his mark with five boundaries but fell victim to the bowling prowess of Mujeeb. Despite a slow start, India began to accelerate their run rate after the initial powerplay.
The pressure was on the Indian batsmen to maintain the scoring rate, and they responded admirably. Tilak Varma, the second Indian batter, departed after scoring in the 20s. However, Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube formed a crucial 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Their collective effort put India in a favorable position, a testament to the team’s depth in batting talent.

Not only did he contribute with the bat, but Dube also built three substantial partnerships of 40 or more runs. His unbeaten innings ensured that India reached the target without any further hiccups.

However, one incident during India’s bowling caught the eye. Mukesh Kumar bowled a delivery which should not have been bowled and was taken for a boundary through an area which had no fielders. When Mukesh Kumar was going back to his mark, captain Rohit Sharma came forward and hilariously slapped him on his head. Kumar sported a weary grin as he knew he had made a mistake.
This chilly evening in Mohali witnessed an entertaining T20 match between India and Afghanistan. Despite the adverse weather conditions, both teams displayed their skills and competitive spirit. India emerged victorious, thanks to their disciplined bowling performance and some standout innings with the bat.
