IND vs AUS: 3 Mistakes Rohit Sharma Makes As Captain

India made a hash of affairs against Australia despite piling up significant numbers with the bat. Their bowlers were peppered to the ropes way too frequently and the best of the lot didn’t really have the supremacy that they were supposed to savour on their turf. If Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the madness that cost India dearly, Harshal Patel was caught as his partner in crime.

However, more than the bowlers’ cumulative misses, somehow Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been put to the question. There are reasons that has seen Team Indian struggling despite coming close and ever since the crash in Asia Cup, Sharma hasn’t really savoured the best of times as India has lost 3 of their last 4 T20Is. Here are three mistakes that Rohit Sharma has been making as a captain.

#1 Still experimenting in every passing game

With the World Cup at the doorstep, somehow Rohit believes that change is the only constant. The combinations are getting jumbled up and even before he can make those concrete calls, India is finding themselves at the end of serious heat. Jasprit Bumrah should have been in the playing XI considering the number of games that India gets ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Yet somehow, Rohit went with Umesh Yadav, a decision that makes absolutely no head and tail whatsoever.

#2 Skeptical of his own options

Bhuvneswar Kumar has been the price paid by the Indians in their last few T20I contests and yet, Rohit doesn’t look around for alternatives. Somehow it gives a comfort level that Rohit has settled into and in order to run a team, you will always need a plan B. If you come to the contest with just a solitary plan, it is bound to go up in flames.

#3 Lacks courage to go for the gambles

If there is one thing that we have learnt from MS and Kohli is that there are times when you will have to come up with the weirdest of calls. They will bear fruits occasionally but even for those occasions to arrive, you will have to try. With limited avenues of attack and stunted foresight, Rohit has seemed way out of his depth. With two major tournaments producing minimal results, Rohit will have to turn the wheel around.
