Rohit Sharma Led Team India Defeated Australia By 6 Wickets: Just like the million fans, India captain Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh, and Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan were also left shocked to witness the top-order collapse of team India in the opening World Cup match against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
After the Indian bowlers bundled the Australian team on 199 runs, the Indian batters made a horrible start to their innings as India lost early wickets. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer, the top-3 batters were sent back to the pavilion on ducks.
Mitchell Starc drew the first blood for his team as he dismissed Ishan Kishan for a golden duck. Ishan was caught by Cameron Green in the slips. Josh Hazlewood then trapped Rohit in front of the stumps, dismissing him LBW out. Hazlewood also got Iyer caught out at cover as David Warner completed an easy catch.
With quick wickets, Australia left India reeling at 2/3 after just two overs. Talking about the game, Virat Kohli once again proved why he is hailed so highly. He played a crucial knock of 85 runs, bringing stability and experience to the chase. He was joined by KL Rahul in the middle and together they stitched a remarkable partnership of 165 runs, which was the backbone of India’s successful run-chase. Playing a stellar knock, KL remained unbeaten at 97 runs, just three runs short of a well-deserved century.
