Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar heaped praises on India’s young bowling sensation, Umran Malik, for his raw pace and amazing bowling skills. Gavaskar claimed that Malik is the second player after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar he is excited to see him.

Umran Malik impressed one and all with his sensational performances during the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League before he made his debut for the Indian cricket team in T20Is and ODIs.

He was a part of the Indian squad for the 2nd ODI game against Bangladesh on Wednesday, where he displayed pace, aggression, and accuracy with his mesmerizing spell. Umran gave a nightmarish time to Shakib Al Hasan in his first over and then sent Najmul Hossain Shanto’s off stump for a cartwheel with a 151 km/h thunderbolt in the first ball of his next over. He registered figures of 2/58 in his 10 overs as the hosts set a 272-run target for the Men in Blue after opting to bat first.

Sunil Gavaskar Gave A Huge Compliment To Umran Malik

Meanwhile, Speaking on SonyLIV ahead of the 2nd ODI match between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka on Wednesday, Sunil Gavaskar showered praises on Umran Malik. He claimed that the last Indian player to make him this excited was Sachin Tendulkar. He said:

“One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik,”

So far, Malik has taken a total of 5 wickets while representing the Men in Blue in 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

Earlier, during the New Zealand tour, Malik had said that he was working to add slower deliveries and yorkers to his repertoire, keeping the T20I format in mind. He said:

“I am working on developing new deliveries. Like, I am working on slowers and yorkers for T20s. Also, I am working very well on pitching good-length and hard-length balls. I am enjoying a lot by working alongside the coaches and feels really good,”

He added: “It is a national duty for me to perform well when I play for India.” If I do well, I will be able to stay on the squad for a long time. I just want to play for India for a long time and do well, “
