After scoring a brilliant 73-run innings in the first ODI against Bangladesh, KL Rahul can’t keep up with his consistency and played a strange, timid knock in the 2nd ODI, dismissed for 14 runs off 28 balls.
In Dhaka on Wednesday, India were chasing a big target of 272 – ‘big’ given the difficult conditions of the Dhaka surface – and were also without opener and captain Rohit Sharma, who had gone off the field in the second over of the match with a thumb injury that he sustained while fielding.
KL Rahul came in to bat at the number 5 position with India reeling at the score of 39/3 in the 10th over already behind in the chase – seems like the management has decided this is the slot for KL Rahul in the ODI side – after Washington Sundar, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer were all promoted due to Sharma’s absence.
Instead of the free-flowing style as he was in the first ODI, KL Rahul was back into his shell, donning the conservative batsman’s hat and trying only to nudge here and there, barely playing a boundary-attempted shot. Whether it were the spinners Shakib and Nasum Ahmed or pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Ebadot Hossain – all tied down KL Rahul, who also didn’t show aggression for any counter-attack.
KL Rahul scored 14 runs in 28 balls with no boundaries
On this track, any ball could come with your name on it. So it would is felt that the batters should make hay when the ball is still hard. Eventually, one ball came with KL Rahul’s name on it, from off-spinner Mehidy Hasan. A sort of delivery that would have dismissed even the best of the batters of spin.
Indeed, the ball didn’t spin at all. Instead, it went straight on after pitching, zipping into Rahul’s pads who tried to nudge it on the legside for a single, but missed it completely. The Bangladeshi players, and their thousands of supporters, went up with a huge appeal. However, even before the umpire could raise his finger, KL Rahul began walkking as he knew the ball had hit his pads in front of the stumps.
A quite timid, weird innings from KL Rahul came to an end. Even before he was dismissed, fans had started trolling him for the way he’d batted today.

If Sanju Samson got half of chances what KL Rahul got, he would have become legend by now.

KL Rahul did what Ricky Ponting did against Tim Southee during Hobart test .
Started walking for a lbw without even looking at the Umpire.
