IND vs BAN: “Not A Fracture But…”: Rohit Sharma Opened Up On Batting With Injured Hand

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma put up an inspiring show as he won everyone’s hearts with his incredible effort with the bat in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

It was in the 2nd over of an innings, when Rohit Sharma dropped a catch which led to him injuring himself. Mohammed Siraj was the bowler and he thought he had almost dismissed the Bangladesh batter there but unfortunately, Rohit ended up dropping the catch, and to make things worse, he even hurt his thumb in the process. The blood poured out of his thumb and he was immediately taken off the field.

As the Indian innings started,  Rohit did not walk out to bat and Virat Kohli replaced him at the top of the order. However, later on, he walked out to bat at number 9 with India starting at defeat in the 43rd over when the team needed 65 runs in about 7 overs. Rohit Sharma nearly pulled off an incredible win for the Indian side as he made a stunning half-century with a knock of 51 in 28 balls. His stunning knock was laced with 3 boundaries and five sixes. However, his batting heroics went in vain as the Indian side was defeated by Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, after the match, during the post-match conference, Rohit Sharma talked about his injury and he revealed that his thumb injury isn’t too great. He said:  “It (thumb injury) isn’t too great. Some dislocation and some stitches. Fortunately, not a fracture and so, I was able to bat.”

Further, Rohit praised the centurian Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rohit said,” From being 69/6, allowing them to get to 270-odd wasn’t a great effect from our bowlers. We started well but the middle overs and the back end is what’s hurting us a lot. Happened in the last game as well. It’s something we need to work on. Not taking anything away from Mehidy and Mahmudullah, was a great partnership but we also need to find ways of breaking such partnerships. In One-Day cricket, it’s about partnerships and when you get those, you have to ensure that they are converted to match-winning partnerships. That’s what they did.”

He added: “Need to be braver in the middle. There are few injury concerns, we need to get to the bottom of this. Need to try and monitor them, because it’s important to understand this. When they come to play for India, they need to be at more than 100 percent. We need to monitor their workload because we can’t have guys coming in to play for the country half-fit,”
