A tight 5-run victory over Bangladesh in a rain-affected game at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday propelled India to the top of the Group 2 points table with 6 points in 4 matches. South Africa are behind them with 5 points in 3 games. Both India and South Africa are favorites now from Group 2 to qualify for the semi-finals.
It was a thrilling match between India and Bangladesh that was alive till the last ball with the rain having added extra DLS drama during Bangladesh’s innings.
Liton Das, with his 21-ball half-century, had provided a cracking start to Bangladesh in their pursuit of the target of 185. When the rain arrived, Bangladesh were 66/0 in 7 overs before their target was shifted to 151 in 16 overs.
On just the second ball after play resumed, Liton Das got run-out courtesy of a superb direct hit from KL Rahul. From thereon, India dragged the game back with regular wickets. Arshdeep Singh nailed his yorkers well and conceded 14 in the last over when tasked with defending 20 runs.
What did Shakib Al Hasan say that got the Pakistani fans fighting?

It seemed that Bangladesh and Shakib Al Hasan were unhappy when the umpires resumed play because perhaps they felt the conditions were not yet fit for play to resume, aside from the fact that Bangladesh was ahead on DLS after 7 overs.
Earlier in the tournament, during the South Africa-Zimbabwe game, the umpires had also stretched the game amid rain as much as possible, but that match was eventually washed out with South Africa within touching distance.
After the match, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan made a statement saying that because of the rain it was slippery, the kind of conditions which he admitted was in favor of the batting team – Bangladesh in this case.
“It was slippery but it suits batting team than bowling team – we won’t make that as an excuse,” Shakib said.

This honest remark from Shakib, though, didn’t go down well with some Pakistani fans. Here are some of the reactions of fans on Shakib’s comment:
Perfect from the captain…still won’t be enough to satisfy the agenda and narrative of those blinded by bias and negativity.

There’s no excuse despite the wet outfield. We should have won the game. But definitely Indian bowlers came back strongly and we stopped one shot away. I don’t know why Pakistan fans are complaining about, we’ll beat them this time. 🤷🏻
