IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli And KL Rahul’s Form At Home Has Been Mediocre Since 2021
India is set to host Bangladesh for a thrilling two-match Test series starting September 19, 2024. However, this series comes at a time when two of India’s cricketing giants, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are under scrutiny for their declining performance at home.

IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli And KL Rahul’s Form At Home Has Been Mediocre Since 2021:

Virat Kohli’s Home Ground Struggles

Virat Kohli, known for his impeccable records, has an astonishing average of over 60 in Tests played in India. However, the last three years tell a different story. Since 2021, Kohli’s batting average has plummeted to 34.47 in 11 Tests, with only one century. This dip in form raises concerns about his current prowess in familiar conditions.

Rohit Sharma’s Diminishing Returns

Similarly, Captain Rohit Sharma, who boasts an average of 61.58 at home, has seen his form wane. Post-2021, Sharma’s average at home has decreased to 44.87. Despite this, he has managed to score four centuries, suggesting he still has the firepower but lacks consistency.

Pant and Rahul’s Form Analysis

Rishabh Pant’s statistics also reflect a drop, although less drastic. His average fell from 63.90 overall to 56.87 in recent matches since 2021. KL Rahul’s situation is more critical, with his average diving to 29.20 from an already modest 41.24. These statistics highlight a broader issue within the team’s batting lineup.

The Lone Improver: Ravindra Jadeja

Contrarily, Ravindra Jadeja stands out as an exception. His batting average at home has slightly improved from 39.65 to 41.20 in the same timeframe. Jadeja’s performance could be pivotal in providing stability to the middle order.

Impact on Team India’s Performance

Despite individual performance drops, Team India has managed a commendable win record at home, securing victories in 12 out of 17 Tests since 2021. This resilience shows that while key players struggle, collective team efforts have compensated, keeping India’s dominance intact.

Looking Ahead to Bangladesh Series

The upcoming series against Bangladesh might not immediately reflect the impact of these individual slumps. However, for India to maintain its reputation as one of the best Test teams globally, the form of Kohli, Sharma, and others needs to be addressed.
As India gears up to face Bangladesh, this series could serve as a litmus test for Kohli and Sharma’s ability to bounce back on home soil. Their performance could very well dictate the tone for India’s future in the Test arena, making this series not just a contest of skill but also of character.
