England won the toss and elected to bat first in the test match. However, they were skittled out for just 218 runs in the first inning. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 5 wickets in the first inning, and Ashwin picked up 4.

India scored a mammoth 477 runs in the first inning, riding on the twin centuries of Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma. Debutant Devdutt Padikkal and youngster Sarfaraz Khan also chipped in with half-centuries. In the second inning, England could manage only 177 runs. Joe Root scored 84 runs, and the next highest scorer was Jonny Bairstow, who scored 39 runs. The other batters had nothing to show. Ashwin picked up 5 wickets in the second innings, Kuldeep picked up 2, Jadeja picked up 1 and Bumrah picked up 2 wickets. India have secured a 4-1 series win.

Gill was overjoyed with the victory for India after Kuldeep Yadav bowled Root out. Shubman Gill was also ecstatic. The leg-spinner was spotted joyfully kissing Shubman Gill.
