Ahead of the series-deciding ODI against England at Old Trafford, India was given a big blow when spearheading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the match.

Jasprit Bumrah Was Replaced By Mohammed Siraj In 3rd ODI

Skipper Rohit Sharma, who once again won the toss, announced that Bumrah is having a niggle and since the management didn’t want to risk him, he has not been selected in the playing eleven.

Mohammed Siraj, who had 4 wickets in 5 ODIs under his belt before this game, replaced Bumrah in the eleven.

Soon after the toss, the BCCI Twitter handle gave an update on Bumrah, revealing that the pacer has back spasms which ruled him out of Sunday’s important fixture. Also, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh was not considered to replace Bumrah as he is still dealing with abdominal strain from a few days ago.

“Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of this game owing to back spasms. Arshdeep Singh was not considered for selection as he is yet to fully recover from right abdominal strain,” the BCCI tweeted.

Bumrah absence is a massive blow to India’s hopes of winning the series as he was the Man of the Match in the first ODI, at The Oval, when his 6/19 blew England away, bowling them out for 110. He also returned with impressive figures of 2/49 in the second ODI at Lord’s however, India lost the game falling 100 runs short of England’s total of 246.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field in Manchester announcing only one change in the eleven. Jos Buttler, the England captain, confirmed that there are no changes in his team that won at Lord’s.
