25th September 2022 – the last time Jasprit Bumrah played an international match for India, or any professional match for that matter. After a total of 327 days, Bumrah will play international cricket again when he will lead Team India against Ireland in 3 T20Is in Dublin in August.

The BCCI announced the squad for 3 T20Is against Ireland, scheduled for August 18, 20, and 23. The Men In Blue will be led by Jasprit Bumrah as both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are rested ahead of the Asia Cup which will start on August 30. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is the captain for the Asian Games, is named Jasprit Bumrah’s deputy. Bumrah has captained India once before – in the Edgbaston Test against England in 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah has been at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for the past two months where he has been recovering and bowling after undergoing back surgery in New Zealand.

Another fast bowler who is recovering from a back injury, Prasidh Krishna, is also deemed fit and will return to the squad for the first time since August 2022.

With the ODI squad members being rested for the Ireland series, a number of young, and fringe players have been picked. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is in the West Indies currently for his maiden T20I series, India have opted for IPL successes Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, while Sanju Samson is also retained. Shivam Dube, after his exploits for CSK and in domestic cricket, is also back in the T20I squad.

Washington Sundar is also back in the national setup while Shahbaz Ahmed gets a go as well along with Ravi Bishnoi. The fast bowling department includes Prasidh, Arsdheep, Mukesh, and Avesh.
