Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has once again found himself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling after he failed to perform yet again. Off late, the left-handed batter has failed to get going in white-ball cricket, and for the same reason, he has been subjected to criticism on social media. Pant has some amazing records in the Test format as compared to the white-ball format of the game.
While there are many who are questioning Rishabh Pant’s position in the playing XI, owning to his back-to-back failures, on the other hand, Rishabh Pant said that he would like to open the batting in the shortest format of the game, while he would prefer to bat at No.4 or 5 in ODIs. Pant also lost his cool when his Test records were compared to the ODI records.
Well, ahead of the 3rd ODI match between New Zealand and India, Rishabh Pant lost his cool during an interview with the popular commentator Harsha Bhogle. Rishabh Pant said that when he will reach the age of 30-32 then his numbers should be compared and doesn’t find any logic in doing it before that. Harsha Bhogle had compared Pant to Virender Sehwag and had asked:
“Maine Viru se bohut saal pahle ye sawal poocha tha, ab aap se puch raha hu. Aapko dekhke lagta hai, white-ball game inki khaas baat hogi but aapka Test record sabse accha hai.“
(which roughly translates to: I had asked the same question to Sehwag, a few years ago. Looking at you, we get the feeling that white-ball cricket is your USP but it’s your Test record that is better…)
Responding to this, Pant said that records are just numbers. He said: “Sir, record toh ek number hai. Mera white-ball record bhi kharab nahi hai. Thik hai T20 ka….”
(which roughly translates to: Sir, records are just numbers. My white-ball record is not bad either…)”
Harsha Bhogle interrupted in between and said: “Main kharab nahi keh raha hu, comparison kar raha hu.”
(which roughly translates to: I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m comparing it with the Test numbers)”
To this, Rishabh Pant said he doesn’t believe in comparisons. He said: “Comparison karna toh sir apni life ka part hi nahi hai na. Abhi main 24-25 years ka hu, comparison karna hai toh jab main 30-32 ka ho jaunga tab karna, usse pahle toh koi logic nahi hai mere liye. “
((which roughly translates to: Comparisons is something I don’t look into. I’m 24-25, if you want to compare, you can do that when I am 30-32, no logic behind doing it before that).”
