Former skipper MS Dhoni had started the trend of an Indian captain handing over the series-winning trophy to the youngsters as a great gesture and giving motivation to the youngsters.

Since Dhoni, every Indian skipper has followed this trend – Virat Kohli and now Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya too, all have gotten plenty of plaudits from the fans for handing over the trophy to younger players in the squad.

Recently, on Tuesday, after India registered another home series victory, beating New Zealand by a 3-0 scoreline, Rohit Sharma too continued on this tradition.

Sharma received the ODI series victory trophy from the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association officials. It was a giant trophy that the Indian captain got.

Rohit took the trophy over to the podium, where the entire squad was waiting eagerly to celebrate. Seamer Shardul Thakur was the first to come close to Rohit and get his hands. Swiftly, Rohit handed the trophy to the uncapped player KS Bharat, who didn’t get a chance to play, and Thakur. Giving this big moment to KS Bharat and Shardul Thakur, Rohit, without any hesitation, moved in the background and let the players celebrate the victory.

Shubman Gill was the Man of the Series for his 360 runs in 3 innings, with one double hundred and one century. Shardul Thakur was named the Player of the Match in Indore, for his all-round performance: 25(17) with the bat and 3-wicket haul with the ball.

Speaking after clean-sweeping the series, India captain Rohit Sharma said: “I thought in the last six games we played we did most parts right and that is the key in 50-over games. We were consistent too. WIthout Siraj and Shami I knew we wanted to give chances to people on the bench. Wanted to get Chahal and Umran in the mix. We wanted to see how they react under pressure. I know we had the runs on the board, but I don’t think any score is safe here. We bowled pretty well, stuck to our plans and held the nerve. Shardul has been doing it for a while. People call him magician in the squad and he came and delivered. Just need to get more games under his belt.”
