IND vs NZ Squad: 3 Big Mistakes Made By The Selectors

Yesterday India’s squad for the upcoming bilateral series against New Zealand was announced and there were some surprises for the Indian fans to digest. There was a string of new faces on the cards while a few old ones were rested.

However, in general the fans seemed to be a bit more displeased about the chosen players and believe that the selectors could have done a much better job. Team India is going to be a part of three T20Is against New Zealand followed by three ODIs that is slated to be played right after the T20 World Cup.

Here are three decisions made by the selection which can come under the scanner:

#1 The team lacks experience in general

Ideally, for any overseas tour it is expected to witness a fair balance of experience and youth. Somehow the management has blurred the lines and its more of youth than experience. If not youth, we have a lot of players who are quite famous in the domestic circuit but when it comes to international cricket, they are still to burn their hands. Now it is understandable that India wants fresh faces to take up the mantle with Kohli and Rohit slowly heading towards their twilight but if truth be told, injecting so many fresh faces at once sounds a bit too out of place.

#2 Umran Malik is more of a liability than asset in the swinging conditions of New Zealand

Despite being continental neighbours with Australia, the surfaces of New Zealand are riddled with drift and if the bowlers are able to hit the right spots, they would prise out sheer gold. However, Umran Malik has shown very minimal swing and the raw pace that he has, is mostly wayward from the line that can actually school a batter. He has talent for sure but he needs someone to groom it. Losing a few clicks won’t hurt if he is able to channel his deliveries. However, the international circuit hasn’t been much kind to him.

#3 Ravi Bishnoi was dropped

The young Indian leggie has so far been phenomenal in recent times in the Indian colours. He is slowly growing in confidence and is believed that if he can get enough game time, he can actually be India’s trump card in the forthcoming future. Even though the Men in Blue would be expecting Kul-Cha to do the trick, but dropping Bishnoi is probably taking away an opportunity from him.
