India pacer Mohammed Siraj ran riot over the South African batting line-up in the first innings of the 2nd Test in Cape Town.
As Siraj returned with incredible figures of 6/15 in his marathon 9-over spell, India bowled South Africa out for only 55. This is now South Africa’s lowest all-out total for South Africa since their readmission. Siraj’s figures of 6/15 are now the third-best figures by an Indian bowler in South Africa in Test cricket.
With India looking to win this game to level the series, the visitors were asked to bowl first by Dean Elgar, who won the toss. Mohammed Siraj rocked up and was on fire right from the first over.
Siraj first dismissed Aiden Markram with a beautiful outswinger. But it was the wicket of Dean Elgar, the Man of the Match in Centurion for his 185, that sparked wild celebrations from him and the Indian players. Elgar’s luck finally ran out and he inside-edged a length ball onto his stumps, out for only 4 runs.
From thereon, India didn’t look back. While Siraj took 6 wickets from his end, Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar took care of the other batters, taking two wickets each.
This sparked a meme-fest on Twitter.
