India vs Australia 2017: Did BCCI Betray Virat Kohli?

India vs Australia 2017: After the second Test match in Bangalore, India’s captain Virat Kohli made big allegations against Australia, specially their captain Steve Smith, for taking help from their dressing room while making calls on Decision Review System (DRS). Virat Kohli clearly said in the post-match press conference that his Australian cricketers breaking laws. Kohli didn’t mince his words and criticised Steve Smith’s behaviour in the strongest possible manner.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also backed their captain and also lodged a complain to International Cricket Council (ICC).

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after due deliberation and seeing the video replays of the episode steadfastly stands with the Indian Cricket Team and its Captain Mr. Virat Kohli.”

“Mr. Virat Kohli is a mature and seasoned cricketer and his conduct on the field has been exemplary. Mr. Kohli’s action was supported by ICC Elite Panel Umpire Mr. Nigel Llong who rushed in to dissuade Mr. Steve Smith from taking recourse to inappropriate assistance.

“BCCI has requested the ICC to take cognizance of the fact that the Australian skipper Mr. Steve Smith in his press conference admitted to a ‘brain fade’ at that moment. BCCI sincerely hopes that the rest of the matches are played in the true spirit of cricket,” the BCCI added.

But just hours after informing ICC, BCCI withdrew its complaint and said its time to move on and focus on the game. And this gave Australian team, their media and fans to launch an all-out attack on the Indian captain.

The Australian media attacked Virat Kohli from all corners and made him the pantomime villain. Even Australian cricketers and their board took digs at Kohli as his allegations turned cold after BCCI withdrew its complaint. Cricket Australia’s chief James Sutherland insulted Indian captain by saying he is not sure if Virat Kohli knows how to spell sorry.

This behaviour by BCCI has surely allowed Australians to attack Kohli and in a way, let their own captain down.
